Sol Therapy - Carolyn Lim

Carolyn is a Clinical Mental Health Therapist whose work is grounded in trauma-informed psychotherapy and counselling. Her purposeful transition into the mental health field follows more than 20 years in education and coaching. As a former MOE Physical Education teacher, ITE lecturer and netball coach, she has spent much of her professional life working closely with children, adolescents and young adults. Over the years, she developed a growing appreciation for the emotional and psychological experiences that lie beyond what we often see on the surface. Together with her own journey of growth and healing, this inspired her mid-career transition into psychotherapy and counselling.

Carolyn has worked therapeutically with adolescents, young adults, adults and older persons across a range of concerns, including anxiety and low mood, self-worth and identity, relationship difficulties, grief and loss, life transitions, emotional overwhelm, and difficult or painful past experiences. She is especially drawn to supporting people who feel lost, stuck, overwhelmed or disconnected from themselves and the lives they want to lead.

Her approach is warm, collaborative and person-centred, grounded in authenticity, empathy and respect for each person’s unique story and lived experience. Rather than applying the same solution to everyone, Carolyn works responsively with each client’s needs, strengths, capacity and readiness for change, allowing therapy to unfold at a pace that feels manageable and supportive. Her integrative practice draws from approaches including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), and Brain-Switch 2.0® alongside strengths-based, positive psychology, and mindfulness-informed practices. Her work is also guided by trauma-informed principles of safety, trust, choice, collaboration and pacing.

Carolyn believes that meaningful therapy involves both being deeply heard and, when appropriate, gently challenged. She seeks to create a space where clients can explore difficult experiences and emotions with a sense of safety and without judgement, while also recognising patterns, discovering strengths, developing new perspectives and exploring possibilities for change. Ultimately, she sees therapy as walking alongside clients as they make sense of where they have been, understand themselves more deeply, reconnect with their own inner resources, and navigate forward with greater clarity, agency and self-compassion.

As a mother of two teenagers (and a furbaby), Carolyn also brings lived understanding of the complexities of parenting, marriage and family life. Outside the therapy room, she enjoys learning, meaningful conversations, playing mahjong with friends, good food over an iced latte or tea, and winding down with a good book.
