What is Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS)?

Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS), also known as Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME), is a complex and often misunderstood condition marked by profound, long-lasting fatigue that isn’t relieved by rest. This fatigue can significantly impair daily life, often accompanied by a range of symptoms that overlap with other conditions like Fibromyalgia. These may include brain fog, widespread pain, unrefreshing sleep, headaches, sensitivities to stimuli, and difficulties with memory or concentration.

More than just “tired”

People living with CFS/ME often describe a relentless heaviness—physically and mentally—that feels disproportionate to their activity level. One of the most defining features is Post-Exertional Malaise (PEM): a delayed crash after even minimal physical, cognitive, or emotional effort. PEM may set in hours or days after exertion, leading to severe symptoms, including the need for extended rest, sometimes complete bedrest. This is not “just fatigue”—it’s a nervous system shutdown that deeply affects functioning, social connection, and emotional well-being.

Understanding CFS/ME through a Trauma-Sensitive Lens

While the exact cause of CFS/ME remains under study, it is increasingly understood as a multi-system condition—not just physical, but also neurological, immunological, and relational. Research and lived experience point toward a combination of contributing factors:

  • Chronic stress or traumatic experiences (past or ongoing)

  • Immune system challenges or viral infections

  • Environmental toxins or sensitivities

  • Nervous system dysregulation from prolonged overload or burnout

In a trauma-sensitive framework, we recognize that the nervous system may remain in a heightened state of defense long after the original stressor has passed. For some, especially those with developmental, relational, or medical trauma, the system never fully resets. Fatigue then becomes more than tiredness—it’s the body’s way of protecting, conserving, and surviving when it perceives it can’t safely keep going.

Our Approach

We understand that Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS/ME) is not just about tiredness—it’s about living in a body that often feels like it’s been pushed beyond its capacity to cope. Our care is not about fixing or forcing, but about creating the conditions for your system to feel safe enough to restore.

We work gently, at the pace of your body, not against it. Our approach blends psychotherapy, somatic practices, and neuroplasticity-informed support to meet your unique experience with compassion and depth.

✧ Trauma-Informed Relational Somatic Therapy (TIRST)

At the heart of our work is TIRST—a body-respecting, co-regulated process that supports nervous system regulation, inner safety, and self-trust. Rather than “pushing through,” we invite your body into presence, attunement, and gradual reconnection.

✧ Neuroplasticity & Brain Retraining

Drawing from the science of neuroplasticity and inspired by researchers like Dr. Norman Doidge, we support clients in gently shifting entrenched patterns of fatigue, overwhelm, and freeze.

Through small, consistent practices—without pressure—we help build new neural pathways that foster vitality, presence, and possibility.

✧ Psychotherapy & Counselling

Chronic fatigue often brings complex inner experiences—grief over lost capacities, fear of flare-ups, frustration, shame, and the pain of feeling unseen or misunderstood. Our psychotherapy work creates a safe space to explore not only these emotions, but also the thoughts, beliefs, and meaning patterns that may shape how you relate to your fatigue, your body, and yourself.

✧ Clinical Hypnosis

Through safe, guided hypnosis and mindful language-based tools, we explore the subconscious beliefs and internal patterns that may influence your sense of energy, safety, and identity.

These processes offer a doorway into self-understanding, calm states, and inner re-alignment—always with consent, pacing, and choice.

✧ Lifestyle & Nervous System Support

We support your nervous system by honoring rest, rhythm, and permission—not productivity. You won’t find rigid protocols here. Instead, we co-create a toolkit that matches your needs, such as:

  • Restorative breathwork practices

  • Gentle somatic movement (e.g., swaying, stretching, grounding)

  • Sleep rhythm and hygiene support

  • Stress reduction tools adapted to your energy levels

  • Nutrition that supports nervous system balance

Healing is not about doing more.

It’s about softening into spaces where your system feels safe enough to shift.
We walk with you—slowly, gently—toward restoration that honors your body, your story, and your truth.

Common Symptoms of CFS/ME

We understand the wide-ranging symptoms of CFS/ME can be both exhausting and invalidating. Our approach supports you in understanding, tracking, and working gently with your body’s cues. Some common symptoms include:

    • Persistent, Unrelieved Fatigue
A deep exhaustion that doesn’t improve with rest and worsens with even small amounts of activity.

    • Post-Exertional Malaise (PEM)
A delayed crash in energy or function following activity, often leading to days—or longer—of rest.

    • Cognitive Impairment (Brain Fog)
Slowed processing, memory lapses, difficulty concentrating, or feeling mentally “hazy.”

    • Sleep Disruptions
Unrefreshing sleep, difficulty falling asleep, or waking up fatigued.

    • Widespread Pain
Muscle aches, joint pain, or headaches without inflammation—often shifting or unexplainable.

    • Sensory Sensitivities
Heightened sensitivity to sound, light, touch, or smells that trigger overwhelm.

    • Immune-related symptoms
Recurring sore throat, flu-like symptoms, or swollen lymph nodes.

Our Services

The Neuro-alignment Program draws on principles of neuroplasticity to gently retrain the brain’s stress response patterns commonly seen in Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS). Through specific mental exercises and brain retraining practices, individuals can reshape their neural pathways, reducing reactivity and increasing emotional and physiological resilience. This process supports the regulation of stress responses and fosters more adaptive ways of relating to the body’s signals—all paced with care and respect for each person’s unique rhythm.

Psychotherapy and counselling provide a compassionate space to explore the emotional, cognitive, and relational layers of living with chronic fatigue. For many, CFS is accompanied by experiences of grief, frustration, anxiety, or feeling unseen. Our work together invites these stories and feelings to be gently witnessed, helping to address underlying distress, cultivate greater self-understanding, and build new ways of thinking and responding with more ease and self-compassion.

Clinical Hypnotherapy for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome supports access to the body’s innate capacity for rest, regulation, and healing. In a deeply relaxed state, clients are guided to reframe limiting thought patterns, access calm, and reconnect with inner resources. This gentle approach can support nervous system regulation and help alleviate symptoms by working with the subconscious in a safe and supported way.

Trauma-Informed Relational Somatic Therapy supports individuals in reconnecting with their body’s cues and building a felt sense of safety. Rather than focusing on symptoms alone, this approach helps explore the possible roots of dysregulation by gently tracking sensations, emotions, and patterns held in the body. The work unfolds at the client’s pace, allowing for integration, increased awareness, and a sense of empowerment in navigating the complexities of chronic fatigue.

Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy offers a gentle, non-invasive way to support the nervous system’s natural capacity for regulation and healing. By attuning to subtle rhythms in the body, practitioners help facilitate balance in the craniosacral system, which can reduce stress, ease tension, and support overall well-being. This modality complements other therapies by working directly with the body’s wisdom in a deeply restful and restorative manner.

Breathwork and Movement Therapy invites the body into gentle states of presence, helping discharge stored stress and restore vitality. Through intentional breath and supportive movement practices—like swaying, shaking, or grounding—individuals reconnect with their body in a safe and regulated way. This work not only improves oxygen flow and reduces tension but also enhances energy regulation and emotional resilience. When combined with clinical work, it strengthens the body-mind connection, supporting recovery from multiple angles.
