Clinical Counsellor

Sol Therapy - Monika Verma

Monika is a compassionate and reflective counsellor who believes that reaching out for support is an important step towards understanding oneself and creating meaningful change. She recognises that sharing personal experiences can feel challenging and strives to create a safe, respectful and non-judgmental space where clients feel heard, supported and comfortable exploring what matters to them.

Monika holds a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Sociology from the University of Delhi and a Master of Guidance and Counselling from James Cook University, Singapore. She is a Provisional Clinical Member of the Singapore Association for Counselling (SAC) and has undertaken professional training in trauma-informed practice, suicide intervention (ASIST), Emotion-Focused Therapy and couples counselling. She has experience working with individuals and couples across a broad age range, from adolescents aged 16 to adults in their 70s, across private counselling, community and correctional settings. She has also volunteered with the Singapore Prison Service for over three years, an experience that has deepened her appreciation for the importance of empathy, dignity and understanding when supporting people through difficult circumstances.

Monika supports clients navigating concerns such as stress and burnout, emotional overwhelm, self-esteem and self-worth, people-pleasing and boundaries, relationship and communication difficulties, grief and loss, family concerns, life transitions, and feeling stuck, disconnected or uncertain about their direction in life. She particularly enjoys working with individuals who may appear to be managing well on the outside while internally feeling overwhelmed, emotionally disconnected or unsure of what they want. She also supports couples who wish to improve communication, understand recurring patterns of conflict, rebuild connection and strengthen their relationship.

Monika takes an integrative and collaborative approach, drawing from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), mindfulness and Gottman Method approaches. She believes that people often develop ways of coping that have helped them navigate difficult experiences, relationships or circumstances. Rather than applying a one-size-fits-all approach or telling clients what they should do, she works alongside them to understand these patterns, explore their emotions and needs, and discover new ways of responding that feel more helpful and aligned with their values.

Outside of counselling, Monika enjoys travelling, spending time with family, exploring new places and cultures, and participating in creative and community activities. She values meaningful relationships, curiosity, lifelong learning and a sense of connection. These values also shape her therapeutic work, where she hopes clients feel accepted as they are and supported in finding greater clarity, self-awareness and confidence as they navigate life’s challenges.
